Do I have to wear hearing protection ? |

From 85 dB(A) you have to supply it and from 90 dB(A) you must wear hearing protection. According to the new EU standard the limit value are decreased down by 5dB(A). From 80 dB(A) you have tot supply hearing protection and from 85 dB(A) you must wear hearing protection. |

What’s the better hearing protection: Plug or muff ? |

Concerning to the attenuation – both are equivalent, the decision should depend on the practical combination with the works safety equipment. |

Has the employer to take care for the costs of HPE? |
|
Independently of the size of a company the employer has to provide hearing protector if the action levels are exceeded. |

What action levels have to be obeyed? |
|
The lower action level is at 80 dB(A). Here the employee has to be provided with HPE. The second action level is at 85 dB(A) when noise exposed areas have to be marked with special signs.
If an ear protectors is in use the inner aural noise should not exceed 87 dB(A) and in general noise should not be above 120 dB(A) |

Where can I find the noise attenuation of an earplug? |
|
The manufacturer is obliged to mark the smallest sales packaging but not the single earplug. In real works conditions you will find noise of medium and higher frequencies more often therefore it makes sense to look at the M-value instead of the SNR to achieve higher reliability |

Earplug provide protection up to 115 dB(A), look into your manual. For higher noise exposure you can combine ear muffs and earplugs (up to. +5dB). |
